Dr. Bhupendra Bharthi Gosai (1967-2024)

It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Dr. Bhupendra Bharthi Gosai, a renowned anatomist, educator and academic administrator. Dr. Gosai died on March 18th, 2024 at the age of 56 years.

Dr. Gosai had an illustrious career spanning over 30 years in medical education and healthcare. After obtaining his MBBS from Medical College Baroda in 1989 and MS in Anatomy in 1998 from the same institution, he served for 4 years as a medical officer in rural areas of Gujarat.

He then dedicated 26 years to anatomy teaching and administration at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He served on the faculty at Medical College Baroda before joining King Faisal University in Saudi Arabia in 2009 as a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. There, he taught gross anatomy, embryology, histology and neuroanatomy to medical students while taking on key administrative roles such as Head of the Biomedical Sciences Department.

Dr. Gosai had significant international exposure. He received training in problem-based learning, curriculum development, and assessment methods at the University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands. He also served as an external examiner and expert for medical programs in countries like Mauritius, China, and Hubei. 

At the institutional level, he made vital contributions as a member of various high-level committees related to curriculum, faculty development, e-learning, skills training and more. He was deeply committed to enhancing medical education through innovations in teaching and assessment.

Despite his busy academic schedule, Dr. Gosai actively published research in peer-reviewed journals and guided postgraduate students. He was a passionate advocate for extracurricular activities among medical students.

Dr. Gosai’s legacy is that of an outstanding teacher, meticulous administrator and a lifelong champion of medical education reform. He will be dearly missed by his colleagues, students and the international medical community. We convey our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
